xii, 42 hlm: 27 cm Novel is a genre of fiction, and fiction may be defined as the art or craft of contriving, through the written word, representations of human life that instruct or divert or both. A novel is an account of life; it involves conflict, characters and plot, setting and theme(Sarah, ryoga, 2009). The Last Song has many unique characters. Characters may be defined as a verbal representation of a human being. Through action, speech, description, and commentary, authors portray characters that are worth being cared about, rooting for, and even loving, although there are also character you may laugh at, dislike or even hate (Roberts and Jacob 1983:131).The writer is interested in the novel because the plots are interesting and well-thought out, the characters well-developed, the writing style so real yet poetic and there are some powerful messages and life lessons in them. This thesis focused on major and minor characters, protagonist and antagonist characters, and round and flat characters. The writer used the qualitative design .Through the result of this research, it is suggested that by having read the novel The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, we can take a wisdom about how important a family is, especially in terms of creating a good communication within a family. As well as for teenagers, it is important to be careful in deciding what to do in life, and be good at making companionship, and also never ignore the importance of a family in life. The purpose of the analysis is to describes the attitudes of the characters in the novel The Last Song.
