Reading is a one of four basic skills in English which is important because it is the basic to learn English, so it must be developed. In this thesis, reading was selected as the subject. The researcher uses exposition text in newspaper to the students. In this study the researcher wants to describe how the implementation of teaching analytical exposition text using Jakarta Post for the third semester students at STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo, and the cognitive and behaviour of the students in learning reading analytical exposition text using the Jakarta Post for the third semester students at STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo. The Jakarta Post newspapers is an English newspaper in Indonesia, it can be local newspaper or international newspaper. English newspaper is printed publication usually daily or weekly with local and abroad news (Kunek,2002:13). This study uses descriptive qualitative. The subject was the third semester students at STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo consisted of 21 students in the class. The researcher was as the observer and conducted in two meetings. The data collected by the researcher by observation fieldnote, students’ worksheet, students’ rating scale and draft of interview. The researcher observed all activities in lesson plan to be implemented in the classroom by using fieldnote. The researcher acted as observer and the lecturer of the class acted as a lecturer. From the students’ assignment, it was found that 94% students could do the students assignment well. From the students’ behaviour rating scale, it was found that 95,2% students interactive and had good responsibility during the lesson. The result of students’ cognitive and behaviour responses showed that the students understand about the material well and the students also really interested and enjoy reading Jakarta Post in analytical exposition text in the class. As the result, Jakarta Post can increase the students’ ability in reading analytical exposition.
