xiii, 55 hlm.;RPP. ; 21 cm The background of the study is that the descriptive text is a text which speakers show their ideas based on their sense on the object that they see or think. The students for tenth grade in senior high school learnt about descriptive text and they are being able to describe something or someone orally in descriptive text. Authentic materials are the real thing or material which can be seen directly by the students or the teachers. Based on the background above the purpose of the study focuses to describe the authentic material as a media in teaching descriptive text for students speaking skill at SMA Antartika Sidoarjo especially for tenth grade, to Jacobson et al. The techniques of the study are observation, questionnaire, and interview. Data used in this study are from the result of observation check list, students’ questionnaire, and the interview with the teacher. The research design in research is the qualitative research method because the data has no calculating or numeration for the research. The calculation is just for supporting data. The qualitative research is a research of which data in the forms of written or oral word are descriptively analyzed which does not include any calculation. The research finding on this study are as follows (a) The implementation of using Authentic Materials for Descriptive Text in Teaching Speaking; and (b) The student’s response toward the implementation of using authentic materials for descriptive text in teaching speaking. It concluded that The Use of Authentic Materials for Descriptive Text in Teaching Speaking at The Tenth Grade of SMA Antartika Sidoarjo is running well. It can be continued for another researcher. This media can be one of the ways in teaching speaking especially for descriptive text. Thus the researcher gives an advice that the authentic material can be used to be an alternative media or tools in teaching speaking.
