48 hlm. RPP. Keywords: teacher’s strategies, teaching reading, descriptive text. One of English skill is reading. To understand the contents of the text, the students faced many problems. Therefore, as an English teacher, we have to be able to find an interesting strategy in teaching English especially in mastering reading comprehension. The teacher should be able to find and use the right strategy which is suitable with the students’ condition. This research is to describe the teacher’s strategies in teaching reading descriptive text at SMK PGRI 3 Sidoarjo and to describe the applied strategies in teaching reading descriptive text at SMK PGRI 3 Sidoarjo. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. She collected data through observation, field note, and interviewed. The result showed that teacher’s strategies in teaching reading descriptive text were two strategies: skimming strategies and questioning strategies. The teaching implemented the strategies by following several steps: read the title and read carefully the introductory paragraph with louder. Read carefully the final paragraph that is the conclusion of the text. The teacher gives several questions to students to better understand the contents of the descriptive text.
